Urban Terrazzo for Private Apartment

Urban Terrazzo

for Private Apartment

In 2019 our architecture and design collective They Feed Off Buildings was commissioned by a private client to develop a kitchen counter top from Berlin debris in copper green.

In 2017 we started our first research for Urban Terrazzo with urban waste from Berlin.

What started out as a research on local urban waste, soon turned into the development of a

new sustainable material, which preserves the unique character of original architectures.

The material palette of 'Urban Terrazzo' Vol.1 mirrors the unique character of Berlin's architecture. The color palette derives from the original 'Klinker' bricks, carefully grinded and reused as pigments, as well as from additional natural pigmentation. The old concrete shows a colorful mix of the former building material of Berlin. A trace of the city's unique character.

Transformation of Berlin demolition waste into new a new countertop for a private apartment in Berlin. From past Berlin architecture debris to contemporary Berlin interiors.
