ATTUNEMENT
TO THE OCEAN
FIELD STUDY ON
UNDERWATER METHODS
Together with the biologist Anja Wegner from the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior - Jordan Lab, I spent a first field season at the marine research station STARESO in Calvi (Corsica, FR). We developed an incomplete guide for underwater field methods between design research and marine biology, which we presented in our joint publication «Attunement to the Ocean. Underwater methods between design research and marine biology.» at the Swiss Design Network Conference 2022. The objective is to explore forms of environmental adaptation to the ocean through scuba diving and experimental field methods between design research, anthropology and marine biology. In addition, I have built a first autonomous biorock prototype made of conductive steel threads and solar panels. On these filigree conductive meshes, limestone slowly accumulates and provides a habitat for pioneering marine organisms. The study serves as a basis for the installation of long-term underwater prototypes for mineral accretion in rapidly changing, anthropogenically influenced marine environments.
